International Working Women’s Day
March 8th 2026 Tampere:
As the city of Tampere narrowed women’s empowerment down to patronage of small businesses and vendor tents in the central square on International women’s day 2026, 650* marched in solidarity against patriarchal violence & imperialism, the highest stage of capitalism.
Mobilized by the call for Women, Queer and Trans liberation, to organize, build community and fight for emancipation from patriarchy, the community answered.
Many organizations, groups, collectives, unions and persons came out in overwhelming solidarity.
The drum line and shouts echoed though the center until everyone synchronized and halted the march mid street for a moment of silence.
Convening in the Jugendtori square, food distribution, speeches and community building ensued.
International Working Women’s Day was and is a concrete display of the potential inside the community.

The fight against patriarchy is the fight against class society itself which the private property it’s built on.
The system of patriarchal oppression of women necessitates a system of oppression of all those who diverge from those patriarchal norms.
These struggles are intertwined and are collectively our struggle.

March and demonstration was organized by Friends of Kurdistan Tampere in collaboration with Orivesi Pride, Queer Club Tampere, Solidarity Club Tampere and Hyvää Pataa collective. IWW was one of the many supporters of the event.
