IWW Suomen työpajassa Jyväskylässä käsiteltiin järjestäytymistä työpaikalla

Jyväskylässä kokoontuneen Antikapitalistisen foorumin yhteydessä 25. lokakuuta järjestettiin IWW:n työpaja. Työpajaan osallistui noin 25 toveria eri kaupungeista ja paikkakunnilta. 

Työpaja alkoi johdannolla ja IWW:n logossa esiintyvän kolmen tähden merkityksen avaamisella, minkä jälkeen kuultiin Työväen Opistosta Yhdysvalloissa. Sitten pidettiin keskustelutuokio. Osallistujia pyydettiin etsimään itselleen ryhmän, joissa oli heille tuntemattomia ihmisiä, jotta he pääsisivät pois mukavuusalueeltaan. Ryhmässä he esittäytyivät ja kertoivat toisilleen omasta työstään ja järjestäytymiskokemuksistaan. 

Tutustuimme kahdenvälisten keskustelujen menetelmään ja puhuimme siitä, milloin, miksi ja miten sitä käytetään tehokkaasti. Ryhmissä käytiin läpi työpaikkajärjestäytymiseen liittyviä sanastoa ja pohdittiin, mitkä suomenkieliset vastineet sopisivat sopivat eri tilanteisiin. Määriteltiin radikaali unionismi ja teollinen solidaarisuus sekä selitettiin, mikä erottaa IWW:n järjestäytymisen muista ammattiliitoista. 

Seuraavaksi käsiteltiin työpaikan luokkatietoisuuden kartoittamista, työpaikan hierarkiaa sekä työpaikan fyysisiä tiloja. Keskusteltiin helposti ymmärrettävien esimerkkien avulla kollektiivisen äänen käyttämisestä. 

Lopuksi ryhmille esiteltiin erilaisia työpaikalla esiintyviä ongelmia ja pyydettiin ryhmiä keksimään toimia tilanteiden ratkaisemiseksi. Ryhmien esittelemistä ehdotuksista keskusteltiin yhdessä.

Osallistujat olivat tyytyväisiä tilaisuuden antiin ja innoissaan saamistaan tiedoista ja yleisön osallistumisesta. Foorumin lopuksi järjestetyssä palautekyselyssä monet mainitsivat työpajamme ja kertoivat haluavansa kuulla lisää. He ehdottomasti halusivat IWW:n työpajan myös seuraavaan foorumiin, joka on tarkoitus järjestää Tampereella.

IWW Finland workshop in Jyväskylä discussed organizing in the workplace

An IWW workshop was held on October 25 in connection with the Anti-Capitalist Forum meeting in Jyväskylä. About 25 comrades from different cities and towns participated in the workshop.

The workshop began with an introduction and an explanation of the meaning of the three stars in the IWW logo, followed by a presentation on the Workers’ College in the United States. This was followed by a discussion session. Participants were asked to find a group of people they did not know, so that they could step outside their comfort zone. In their groups, they introduced themselves and told each other about their work and organizing experiences.

We familiarized ourselves with the method of bilateral discussions and talked about when, why, and how it can be used effectively. The groups reviewed vocabulary related to workplace organizing and considered which Finnish equivalents would be appropriate in different situations. We defined radical unionism and industrial solidarity and explained what distinguishes IWW organizing from other trade unions.

Next, we discussed mapping class consciousness in the workplace, workplace hierarchy, and the physical spaces of the workplace. We discussed the use of collective voice with the help of easy-to-understand examples.

Finally, the groups were presented with various workplace problems and asked to come up with solutions. The proposals presented by the groups were discussed together.

The participants were satisfied with the event and excited about the information they had received and the audience’s participation. In the feedback survey conducted at the end of the forum, many mentioned our workshop and said they wanted to hear more. They definitely wanted the IWW workshop to be included in the next forum, which is planned to be held in Tampere.
